I know it’s been a while, but I’m back in the kitchen and have some awesome material lined up for you in 2015! However, that’s not what I’m here to talk about today. With a 2015 just right at our heels, I just want to take a moment to encourage you to take some vital steps to ensure a glorious year. As children of God, the way we prepare for a new year should be different, meaning that we must make a conscious decision to not get caught up in the hype of New Year’s Eve parties. Below is a list of things that I have found to be tremendously effective in preparation for a new year.
1. Thank The Lord for your progress this year
The Bible says, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” (Proverbs 4:18 KJV). Our lives as Christians should only be one of upward and forward movement and The Lord, by His Spirit helps us to achieve the goals we set for our lives. What areas did you advance in this year? What did you learn? Take note of them and thank God. Having a grateful heart enables you to receive even more. God knows this and this is why the Word says “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV).
2. Have a vision for the upcoming year
Habakkuk 2:2 says “…Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” As the seed of Abraham you have been given the ability to see and posses (Genesis 15:5-6), so as you think about want you want the year to look like, write it down and speak about that vision with passion. Take your time with this one; have goals that are big enough for God. There’s more to your future than shedding those extra pounds. Interestingly enough, many Christians don’t have goals related to the work God has called them to do. Don’t let this be you.
3. Dedicate yourself to prayer
After you have written your goals down, spend time to allow The Lord to guide your steps. Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” When The Lord is the one leading you, you just can’t lose. He’s all seeing, all knowing, and can provide all that you require to make your dreams come to pass. To make the most out of this time, fast as you give your focus to prayer to ensure you receive all of what The Lord has in store for you.
4. Attend your church’s New Year’s Eve service
God has an overall plan for the body of Christ, but it is so important that you understand that He also has specific plans for ministries as well. Not every New Year’s message is for you so whatever church you belong to, make sure that you are present to hear what God has to say to your church. If you don’t have a church home, make it a priority to find one in 2015 (I will address this in more detail at another time). I urge you to take this point very seriously because the course of your life in the coming year depends on it. The message you will be hearing from your man (or woman) of God is designed to take you to the next level and if you miss it, you’ll never know the glory you’ll have missed. The Bible says, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7 KJV).
These points are simple and based on scripture so they are SURE to produce results. As you journey throughout the new year, mark your progress. Compare each month of 2015 with each month of the previous year. Are you still dealing with the same challenges? If so, seek council from The Lord through prayer and studying your Bible to find out what adjustments you need to make. As you make those adjustments, you will see that everything will work out for your good.
I pray that you have an exciting prosperous 2015. God bless you!
