I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. (Psalms 82:6 KJV)
I think that one of the most intriguing aspects of growing is testing one’s abilities. To do something that you never even thought to try before (possibly due to ignorance or discouragement) and actually produce a favorable result is exciting! Most of us experience this in a natural sense, but not enough realize that it CAN and SHOULD happen spiritually as well. As children of God, we have been equipped with power and authority that is unmatched. Today, I’m going to focus on an ability that is dear to my heart; divine healing.
When the subject of divine healing surfaces, my people (including Christians) become very skeptical. That’s because the Word of God has not become real to them; they still relate with it as mere religion. However, it is evident from scripture that the name of Jesus is one of our greatest assets and we can actually use that name to effect changes. One of my favorite stories that demonstrates this is when Peter and John approach the temple gate. “Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.” (Acts 3:2, 3, 6-8 NIV).
What amazes me about this scripture is that Peter didn’t pray for the man. He simply used the name of Jesus and laid hands on him! Notice that Peter didn’t stop at saying he didn’t have any money to give. That’s how many of us are sometimes. We look at what we don’t have, when in fact what we do have is so much better! The lame man definitely got more than what he ever thought to ask for that day. As ministers of the gospel, that is how we should be. The word minister is a noun (this is what we are), but far too many forget that it is also a verb. As a verb, the word minister means “to give aid or service”. There is a related action that comes with being a minister.
This fact became very real to me one evening and will remain to be a night that I will never forget. As I was hanging out in my room, I heard a light knock on the door. “Yes?”, I answered. The door slowly opened and there was my mom, barely standing and holding her stomach. I quickly sat up on my bed and asked her what was wrong. She said that the pain she had was very similar to when she had kidney stones over 20 years ago and asked me if I had any pain meds. I told her that I didn’t and for a moment became very nervous. I’ve never seen my mom in so much pain before and began to wonder if we needed to take her to the hospital. A few seconds later, I rejected that thought and made up my mind to put the Word to work. Immediately I told her to go into her room and lay down. I quickly gathered my Healing From Heaven book, my ipad, and a glass of water. I played a short clip of a message where my Pastor talks about health on my ipad and had my mom read out confessions from my book. Then for the next 10-15 min. I laid my hand on her stomach and spoke God’s Word over her life with a vigor that I had never experienced before. When I was finished, all my mom could say was “Thank you Lord.” By the time my brother came home with the paid meds, she was ready to go to sleep! She looked so happy and peaceful. I am sure if she had not been so sleepy, she would have jumping like the man at the temple gate! Afterwards I went back to my room and contemplated on what just happened. I thought to myself, “Dear God, it worked!” The miraculous took place under my roof and I was a part of it! Hallelujah!!
Brothers and sisters, we are different. We don’t have to sit and watch others suffer around us. We can actually do something about it. A character that comes to mind when I think about these experiences is the X-Man, Elixir. Noted as one of the worlds most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe, Elixir has the ability to control the biological structure of any organic matter including his own body. This allows him to heal even the most severe of infirmities or wounds and has demonstrated this on many occasions while on missions with the X-Men. While his ability is based on his mutant DNA (which is extremely powerful, yet still limited), our ability is based on the power of the Holy Ghost who lives in us and NEVER runs dry! If you didn’t know you could do things like this before, now you know. Go out there and test your ability to heal!
